Malaga y Granada 2018
back
For my 28th birthday my girlfriend Idil decided to surprise me with a trip to Malaga, starting only a few days after. With light baggage and my camera we left Kleve, Germany in the middle of the night and stayed in Spain for 3 days and nights.
See the photo story below…
Early birds. We caught the flight at 6 in the morning…
After a 2.5 hours flight we arrived in Malaga, Spain…
Strolling through the streets of Malaga we were famishing while looking for a place to have a good Spanish „desayuno“ at…
Also the modern city, once home to Pablo Picasso, slowly started to wake up now…
The botanic garden revealed its splendid flora…
Palms along the harbor made us assure that we were not in Germany anymore…
The small alleys all along the city gave us occasionally shadow from the bright sun…
In the middle of the historical city center the Santa Iglesia Catedral Basílica de la Encarnación appeared with its massive walls and performing artists all round…
Seeing Malaga’s town hall maybe describes the city’s wealthy appearance the best…
Most of the human activity was visible at night. Those who want to go out will find people of their peers easily to enjoy the Spanish nightlife with…
Us, tired as we were, decided to have some real Spanish wine from the barrel…
Sleep walking was rather difficult due to the unique architecture and all the other impressions we had…
In the early lunch hours and after a long sleep we decided to see the farmers market…
Unusual veggies…
But also unusual forms of known food…
Including fruits, meat, fish, snacks and colorful spices…
After a long walk we more or less spontaneously decided to have an over-night trip to Granada with the bus. Of course having healthy motivational snacks on the way…
After arrival we still found the time to go out and got ready to do so…
All Granada is covered with very unique street lanterns. It took me a while to figure out the regularity of this geometrical lantern shape…
In front, or rather behind Granada’s Cathedral despite our hungry stomachs we just had to stop to enjoy the world class jazz musicians, obviously rather playing for fun than for money…
It was those tiny streets all round the city which demonstrated the Islamic history and culture of Granada…
Walking around the city we completely forgot about how hungry we were and had to chose the only seemingly decent restaurant with a still active kitchen. Oh, and yes, that’s peppermint tea…
Those are tiny eggplants. What, what? …
This might not be any special. Dried chilis in front of a small shop. But beautifulness comes in all shapes and colors…
That’s the cathedral again but from another angle and at daylight…
And as already seen in Malaga or pretty much any other Spanish city, those tiny alleys appear everywhere within the city. It seems like an excursion to the traditional Spanish lifestyle…
For an unusual morning, an unusual breakfast seemed to be just right…
Then, we walked uphill through steep, plain streets…
All the way to a lookout point…
To see the Alhambra…
At its whole magnificence…
Some might judge…
Because visiting Granada without entering the Alhambra seems wrong…
But considering our tight schedule for the day…
We decided not to stay in line for hours…
Not enjoying this unique sight…
Not paying enough attention to the Alhambra…
As much as it deserves…
So we relaxed on the other hill of Granada…
Unofficially known as the meet and greet point for hippies…
While having this terrific view on the Alhambra…
It was great…
It was remarkable how many details this city offers…
Flowers are growing just like that…
But not just randomly…
You can tell, somebody is regularly taking care of…
This beauty…
Literally feeling the city…
The weather was supporting our good mood…
It was a little windy…
While at the same time sunny enough not to freeze at all…
Even though it was in the middle of November.
Sometimes we just entered random doors, which were located all around the city and found ourselves in very panoramic areas such as in the almost 700 year old Corral del Carbón…
To finish our stay in Granada, so far our most enjoyable part of the trip…
We came to the conclusion that it made much sense…
To eat really fancy and spend all the money we did not have…
At late afternoon we arrived back in Malaga but did not even consider to go back to our accommodation there, since it was our last night in Spain for now…
Instead we enjoyed unenjoyable milkshakes at the beach, while discovering that the water was on an increasing tide, but not too cold…
Furthermore we have rediscovered our childhood…
Even the usually really busy harbor suddenly appeared very abandoned…
Our final decision to have a few hours of sleep came with these two minutes of rain…
It was kind of sad, when the plane started to ascend into the air. We were not done with traveling, not done with our vacation, not done discovering new places, not done with adventures. We were not done yet. We decided that this shall not be our last trip and soon enough we would travel again.
